January 2024 Zoom Meeting with Takamasa Tsurusaki

February 14, 2024 By CFJA

We began our new year in 2024 with a zoom meeting with Takamasa Tsurusaki Sensei on January 31st as we continue exploration on the lung and lung channel, dive into five phases within ancient Chinese philosophy, and continue to explore Seino-System in the treatment of healthy (pre-diseased state)  individuals.

The origin of the five phases is important to understand as it is foundational to Chinese Medicine.  It was first mentioned in Chinese philosophy – Shu Jing (Book of Documents) in the following order of water, fire, wood, metal, and earth.  Water is viewed as the source of life.  Over the years, there has been several other proposed ordering of elements beginning with wood, and earth.  Seino-System primarily uses generating cycle theory which was featured during the early Han Dynasty as opposed to the Later Han Dynasty where the emphasis was more on the controlling cycle.

We continued to look in depth into the idea of seitai power which has been previously discussed.   Somatic perception including pain perception, temperature sensation, touch and pressure sensation, and proprioception,  and visceral perception including visceral sensation, emotional and psycholgical factors, and body awareness all play a role in the body’s ability to achievehomeostasis – seitai power.

Treatment of respiratory illnesses were discussed in detail.  Takamasa covered why in some cases we treat the lung and its channel, while in other cases we may focus on the spleen/stomach, liver and/or kidney.  Why probing for other signs and symptoms, what occured around the time of illness onset can bring one to a clearer and more accurate diagnosis.

Takamasa completed the meeting with discussion about how to approach treating those who are in the pre-disease state yet dealing with psycholigcal and physical fatigue or exhaustion through various acupuncture points, needling techniques and moxibustion.

Stay tuned for the next monthly meeting in February.  We hope you have a wonderful Lunar New Year filled with abundance of smiles and laughter!
