February 2024  Zoom Meeting with Takamasa Tsurusaki

March 13, 2024 By CFJA

The spring season invites us to a season of new beginnings.  On February 26, Takamasa Tsurusaki Sensei introduced the concept of time, discussed diagnosis and treatment of 5 shu points, continued discussion of treatment of healthy (pre-disease state) individuals and concluded with a brief case study.

Within Seino System, “Time” is one perspective we use for diagnosing and treating patients. Understand how disease developes over a period of chronological time.  Tak emphasized that disease progression and its pathophysiology can be viewed from a clockwise generating cycle perspective of the 5 phases rather then from controlling cycle.  To furthur support this, Nan Jing discusses illness manifestation appearing like wells, springs, streams, river, and seas, suggesting progression over time.

Tak discussed dysfunction and disease as based on a timeline is classified into several categories depending on the duration of illness be it acute or chronic, and whether it is that of a mental or physical.  Characteristics of pain or visceral symptomology and signs changes over time from days to weeks to years.

Tak introduced abdominal diagnosis which is mentioned in Nanjing Chapter 16 and 56.

The location of Lung area on the hara was discussed along with pulse, and palpation of its 5 shu.  He further expanded on other diagnostic methods including inspection – inspecting nose (colour), presence of a blue vein between the eyebrows (“kan no mushi”),  philitrum, etc.  Tak continued to expand on various conditions which are related to Lung and the significance of our nose including nasal issues referencing gynecological conditions and anterior pituitary gland originating from the same embryonic site as mucous membrane of nose and throat.  Given that Lung diseases manifest on the superficial layers of the body, shallow needling technique or teishin noninsertion methods are necessarily employed.

This concludes the summary for our February Zoom meeting!  We will see you next month!
