In Winter, Preventing a Drop in Body Temperature Is Essential! If Uncomfortable Symptoms Appear During Sleep, Take Caution!?

When the weather suddenly turns cold, the body’s functions may not be able to keep up, leading to various symptoms.

If the body has not adapted to the cold, it becomes difficult to maintain body temperature. As the internal body temperature drops, the following symptoms may appear during sleep:

  1. Waking up repeatedly during the night to urinate

  2. Waking up in the middle of the night due to leg cramps

  3. Waking up at night with palpitations

  4. Waking up toward early morning due to shortness of breath

  5. Waking up toward early morning feeling cold after sweating during the night

All of these can be considered signs that the body is sensing cold.

In particular, during winter—when temperatures continue to drop—the function of the kidneys is more likely to decline, making proactive protection against the cold especially important.

In East Asian medicine, each season is associated with an organ that functions most actively:

spring with the liver, summer with the heart, autumn with the lungs, and winter with the kidneys.

The transitional period between seasons, known as Doyo, is believed to be governed by the spleen.

From another perspective, these periods can also be seen as times when the corresponding organs are under greater strain, and when unhealthy habits are more likely to lead to a decline in their function.

When kidney function begins to decline, various symptoms can appear during the daytime:

  1. Becoming prone to subcutaneous bleeding (easy bruising)

  2. Increased hair loss (finding a lot of hair on the pillow in the morning)

  3. Dry, rough skin (lack of natural oiliness in the hands)

  4. Teeth becoming loose more easily (the gums do not feel firm or snug)

  5. Bleeding easily during tooth brushing (the toothbrush becomes covered with blood)

Prolonged exposure to cold environments can gradually lead to a decline in kidney function.

If the above symptoms start to appear, it is important to review and improve daily lifestyle habits.
